TIMELINE OF RECENT REGULATORY HISTORY OF O&G AT LOCAL LEVEL


1985 – Greeley votes to ban O&G drilling inside the city; immediately sued by COGA

1992 – Colorado Supreme Court declares Greeley ban illegal

2012 – Longmont votes to ban O&G inside city; Fort Collins city council passes a 5 year moratorium on any new O&G drilling inside the city; immediately sued by COGA

2013 – Lafayette votes to ban O&G drilling; immediately sued by COGA

2014 – A Boulder district court declares Lafayette ban illegal

2016 – Colorado Supreme Court declares Fort Collins and Longmont bans illegal

2019 – Colorado passes SB-181 giving local cities and counties regulatory power over O&G operations in their jurisdictions, but lacked regulatory details

2021 – Rulemaking for SB-181 completed

2021 - several juristictions in Front Range begin adopting local O&G regulations
